To save the last Brown Derby restaurant from Hollywood's Golden Age and preserve the unique neighborhood charm of historic Los Feliz.

The Derby: Recognition as a Landmark

The Derby is a treasure to Los Angeles and beyond.  It is certainly a landmark in our hearts.  Isn't it time we give it the formal recognition that it deserves?

Getting the Derby designated as Landmark (i.e. a Historic Cultural Monument) is one of the very best ways to Save the Derby!

So, through the Los Angeles Conservancy and the amazing work of Marcello Vavala, we filed a nomination with the Cultural Heritage Commission to have the Derby (4500 Los Feliz Blvd.) declared an official Historic Cultural Monument with the City of Los Angeles:

  • The Commission received the nomination
  • The Commission Staff Report initially recommended against considering the nomination
  • Derby Supporters including City Councilman Tom LaBonge went to the Commission hearing and fought back! (for a good recap of this meeting click here)
  • We successfully convinced the Commission to change its mind and consider the nomination.
  • The Commission conducted a site visit of the Derby.

Soon, the Commission will hold a public hearing on whether the Derby should be Landmark or not.   (we don't have a firm date yet but expect that it will be in Mid-March or Early April.
